Joseph Aloba, father of the late singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, has disclosed that his life improved following his son’s passing.
In an interview with media personality Akin Abolade, also known as Mrlilgaga, Aloba attributed this change to divine intervention and the spirit of his late son.
“Let me just say yes, my life got better after Mohbad’s death because he was my friend. He had planned to do many things for me, but he wasn’t allowed to fulfill them. After his death, the spirit of Mohbad and God combined to send people to assist me,” Aloba said.

He revealed that the car and other possessions he now has were gifts from compassionate individuals, adding, “It is beyond ordinary. It’s the spirit of Mohbad and God that led people to give me all I have now. These were things he intended to do for me, but circumstances didn’t allow him to.”
Aloba also addressed speculations surrounding those accused in connection to Mohbad’s struggles, particularly mentioning his son’s wife, Wunmi, and her family. He alleged that they played a significant role in matters concerning his son and claimed that they hold all of Mohbad’s landed properties, including a plot meant for building a church.
“Two weeks before his death, he took me to a house he planned to buy after his tour. I know he had already paid for it,” he added.
Reflecting on his journey, Aloba shared that Mohbad’s birth inspired him to become a singer after the money from his naming ceremony was stolen. Mohbad began backing him as a singer at just one year old.
Aloba, a carpenter, singer, and pastor without a church, mentioned that Mohbad had promised to build one for him. He also revealed that since his son’s death, he has released nine songs.
During the interview, Aloba showcased his new block-making business, a truck, and a Toyota Highlander gifted to him by Nigerians who sympathized with his loss.
Mohbad passed away on September 11, 2023, at 26. A nurse alleged to have administered a tetanus vaccine to him before his death was later arrested by the Lagos State Police Command for practicing without a license.
